As part of our fifteen year anniversary we are releasing a series of mixtapes from the Home Normal catalogue. These are digital only and on a pay-what-you-like basis as a thank you for your kind support all these years.
The mixes have been carefully curated by selected Home Normal artists and friends. The cover artwork for the releases represents a sense of 'home' and is local to the curator of the mix. Each mix is presented as one longform track with links to each album below.
The thirteenth Home Normal Mixtape is by a dear old friend in Pakchee. Pakchee ran the electronic-glitch Hz-records label in Tokyo, and currently lives back in his home town of Sapporo, Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan.

I've known Pakchee since our old days in London and we instantly connected as wandering spirits, wild travellers, and creative sound sculptors and engineers.
When I moved back to Japan in 2007, Pakchee introduced me to the local music scene through live events in Tokyo and Saitama where I began DJing and performing live. Through his work with the CMFLG crew and his own label, we took part in a large number of shows with many foreign artists being flown over to the events and it had a huge impact, inspiring me to set-up Home Normal, Nomadic Kids Republic and Tokyo Droning after two years of package research and development. As a result of this I found myself building independent distribution connections in Japan and the UK that hadn't been done to such a degree between the countries in terms of independent ambient-electronic music up to that point.
Pakchee was one of the main inspirations and supportive forces for Home Normal, and we regularly hung out in Sugamo (where I was to meet my wife in the same year), listening to ambient music, talking about music gear and just having a quietude of spirit between us as friends so as to be open and creative. Pakchee then helped with the label in many ways while we lived in Japan, especially with his support for live events and DJing.
I'm thrilled to present this mixtape by such a dear friend and huge inspiration to all the musical work I have commited to for over 20 years now. He's a deeply inspiring artist, engineer, label owner and force of positivity who has had a far bigger impact on the independent music scene in Japan than I think he even realises.
Without people such as Pakchee we would never have set-up the label nor lasted as long. Having lived in a country such as Japan where the quiet spirit of work and dedication to something bigger than oneself is a continuing inspiration, years after having moved away. And it is in this vein that we hope to humbly continue for many years to come.
Thank you
