roel funcken The difference remains subtle in “A Lament”, the achingly melancholic opener, but becomes increasingly apparent as the album becomes more sonically subaqueous, particularly the grainy textures and mechanized rhythms of “Dust and Drag”, the subterranean pulses of “The Eye’s Mind”, and the distant thundercloud rumblings that permeate “Lowly”. The effect is not unlike the way the right matte and frame can flush out the deeper hues and enhance the composition of a painting. Favorite track: The Crushing Weight.

Dotflac Despite the simplicity of its creation, the self-titled Hotel Neon is an exemplary ambient album, and if it wasn't for Ian Hawgood, I would have missed this aural gem.

Processed guitar layers and a very few effects unfurl through seven long pieces and immerse us in a sea of textures, where the repetition and the reverberation of the heady sound loops picture oneiric landscapes and endless horizons.

Gentle and mesmerizing, this remastered work will leave you spellbound and weightless. Favorite track: The Crushing Weight.

Jonathan Spratling The ambient project from the guys in The Sound of Rescue, and it shows. Gigantic swells drift past one another at a tectonic pace - my favorite album to lose myself in. Favorite track: Dust and Drag.
